The Cricket Match (slightly related...)

Our life is like a cricket match
Our men are very keen,
The pitch may not be always smooth
The field not always green.

The creases have been marked for us
We know just where to stand
We know just when to make a hit,
In this the spiritual land.

The game began long, long ago,
In eighteen ninety seven,
With just a few men here, and there
Now, many times eleven.

Our captain spins good faith about,
We must not let it fall,
But meet it firmly with the bat,
And hit it out to all.

We only have one umpire!
We know it should be two,
But the bible stands united
The old testament and the new.

We can appeal just when we like,
Whenever we're in doubt,
The umpires word is always right,
If we be in or out.

Onlookers will you join our team,
We still want many more,
Sometimes the game is rather slow,
But you are bound to score.

The scorers book is held by one,
Who knows our every aim,
Who knows the spirit of our team,
And how we play the game.

And so until our game is closed,
Boundary, single or bye,
We'll wait to play the Greatest Game,
In greener fields on high.

'Tis there we'll count our centuries
As we turn the pages o'er
Our deeds, our heartaches, and our tears,
By these we'll know the score.
